On Ebay France was sold a Mitchell 524 DUAL, I had never seen the reel before, only in a advertisment a long time ago.

In my years of collecting I only have seen Mitchell Garcia 524 reels, so this was a rare reel.

I bought the Combo, rod and reel and have it in now.

I inspected the reel and had some conversations with other Dutch collectors about the rod and reel.

The Dual decal sticker was added over the Garcia sticker, and it all is  original, and even the rod is original , the special forkfoot

rod end is factory made.

The specifiactions on the rod are hand written and I contacted Dries, our expert on DUAL rods confirmed me after seeing the rod , this was original, he had some rods with the same kind of writing on it.

The reel itself has no serial number, and we think it is a test / promotion rod, Mitchell made for sales in Europe.

We think later on, they decided not to launch this version in Europe but sell the 524 series only throught Garcia in the USA.

The Mitchell 524 has a metal rotor only found on early Mitchell 324 reels sold in Europe, so it is a heavy reel over 400 gr.

The reel is totoal original and rare as it can be.

Now it is easy to place a sticker on such a reel, but it is the combination rod and reel, that makes it special.

No other Companion ( SUP series rod) has ever been seen.

Specification on the rod :  821 C3   DUAL 1.80 m and 4-15 gr.

In the catalogues from 1971 is listed this rod as a normal rod with the specification 821 C1 1.80 m and 4-15gr.

So this special rod is build in the same era 1971.
