Mitchell 498 Pro PUM Tournament

Here is an article about a super rare Mitchell 498 Pro Pum Casting.

This reel was found by a collector, who shared the information with me, the reel was already seen before but never with the information and the original box and paperwork.

I want to thank the collector for sharing the information and the right to publish an article about it, on this website.

In the past Mitchell made some nice Tournament reels, mostly in the 300 series, but there was one big reel, the Mitchell 498 Pro Pum

Tournament.

The reel was found in the original box, never used, with all the extra's.

The extra's in the box are: the bronze anodized spool, special pick-up arm with special roller, the special tool to convert the reel and a paper how to install all the parts.

I think we can rate the reel as an 10 on the scale of the rarest reels.

First the box, a normal 498 Pro box with the Casting decal added to the box.

Than we have the spool, wohhh, that is a nice spool, bronze/gold anodized and larger than any other Mitchell 498 spool on the market.

The spool has special ribs to hold the line better, all custom made in the factory, no normal production spool.

As we can see in the picture, it is a normal Mitchell 498 Pro, second edition, the first edition had the word "pro" as a small sticker for the 498 badge.

The handle is also a standard Mitchell 498 Pro handle.

The reel was in the box with a normal pick-up as found on the Mitchell 498 Pro series, but in the box was the special pick-up

what was needed when you wanted to install the special spool, because it was bigger than the normal spool.

The special til was used to do that, the reel is converted by the collector already.

Here the toolset.

Than the picup, black in color and with a special roller, the roller is adjustable on the pick-up, you can place it in any position if needed to allow the reel to spool it the way you want.

Very rare indeed.

Note the screw that holds the pick-up.

The next picture is a close-up of the arm and how it is attached to the reel.

  Special arm on this reel.

Here a picture of the back side of the reel, normal coverplate end Mitchell logo as found on a normal Mitchell 498 Pro.

In the box was also a special paperwork, how to use and install the parts.

It is written in Italian ??

For sure a rare reel, and I thank the owner of the reel for sharing the information, if somebody wants more info are other pictures

just send me an email.
