Door Jan Haanstra, zaterdag 19 mei 2012, 1789 x bekeken. Many different logo's. This is a small article about different logo's found on many Mitchell reels, and a some other information about the subject. I have to say I have a lot of different reels but not all the different logo's are in my collection yet, if I find another one I will ad it in this article. In Holland the disributor was "Albatros", and from the start of selling this reels they added a yellow sticker on the reels, the oldest ones not showed here had a flying "Seagull". I Think Holland has the nicest and the most special logo's off all the Mitchell reels sold worldwide, this is not because I live in Holland, but the pictures will show what I mean. Pictured below some nice "Dutch" reels with extra information. This is a yellow sticker they used this one before they started engraving their name on the reels. This is a later version and the inscription is on the housing of the reel, this is the most common place exept for the Mitchell 302 wich has the inscripton on the coverplate.
Pictured above the wonderfull Mitchell "Benjamin". it is the Mitchell 308 with a special coverplate.
Pictured above the Mitchell 306 "Combi" also a fantastic sideplate with the Seagull in the middle, this seagull was also used on the first yellow stickers, not shown here. This is a Mitchell 302 the only Mitchell I have seen with the "Albatros" engraving on the sideplate. Next the reels sold by the Belgium distributor "Arca" , this distibutor did use stickers and engravings I did not find any reel with a special coverplate sofar. Pictured a Mitchell 350 with "Arca"" sticker, think this where the first reels they sold later did started engraving. Next reel is a Mitchell 308 with engraving on the sideplate. This engraving looks good but I think the "Dutch" Mitchell 308 is a much nicer reel. Pictured below a reel I like, the Mitchell 300 Anniverssary, special ordered by "Arca" for the 45th Anniverssary of the 300 serie. Only 2500 made and a very hard to find reel. Here is the "Arca" logo on the rotorhead in the same color as the Mitchell logo.
Next is Germany, the distibutor is "Balzer" , I have never seen a reel with the name engraving, only reels with a sticker are with the bird engraved on the reels. Some others like this 306 have a coverplate with a fish symbol. Pictured below a Mitchell 300 I just bought with the "Bird" engraving this engaving can you find also on the 304/314/306/302 reels. Next is England, in the UK are not many reels sold with special logo's, only two I think the Mitchell 308 Prince and 358 Prince. Above the 358 "Prince" a high speed version of the 308 with the gears of a 408 this reel is rated as very rare.
In the USA the Mitchell reels where sold through the "Garcia" Corporation, in the beginning the used also a yellow sticker with thier name on it, and later versions do have the engraving. In the USA I have not seen any Mitchell with special coverplates sofar. Finaly France the homeland of Mitchell, only reels sold with the Mitchell engraving, never seen anotherone with a special coverplate. But in France you can find Mitchell reels wich where sold by other vendors and some of them had their own engraving are stickers on the reels. Pictures from some reels below: Shown a "Kilt 0" like a Mitchell 300, there is also a 'Kilt 4" like a Mitchell 304 and a "Kilt 3" looks like a Galion 14. Below a "Blackfish B10" a very strange reel , same as a Mitchell 320, there are also other models :Blackfish B30" a reel as a Mitchell 300. In France there are more comp's that sold Mitchell reels with their own logo, as Prisu, BHV, and Page, so their is a lot of work to do. I have not shown all the logo's maybe I missed a few, but this article is made to give you a idea of all the different reels, wich are out there. If you find something special, if you have a question are some better information feel free to email me. |
